WOMEN’S PROTESTS IN SMALL POLISH TOWNS

Late 2020 witnessed one of the biggest cycles protests in contemporary Poland that were sparked by decision Constitutional Tribunal further restricting abortion law. This cycle contention was somewhat similar to organized 2016 and later but stood out terms scale geographic distribution. The surprising as they also emerged Polish small provincial towns. 2020’s towns belies common assumption about string conservatism particular rural areas. Besides scale, there are other elements these protests, them being harsher more direct language used during generational composition protesting crowds. Our hypothesis is mark emergence a new generation feminist activists, while whole marks deeper changes society. inclusion Roman Catholic Church targets protests’ claims can be linked increasing secularization society; growing observed intersectionality women’s (i.e. social claims, support for LGBT+ community, antifascism) points changing nature activism Poland; finally suggests significant change defining protest arena s shift from locality translocal reality media.
